The INTERNET
- 1973 - Vint Cerf created the Network Control Program (NCP) protocol
- ARPANET was expanded by the National Science Foundation through funding the Computer Science Network (CSNET)
- late 1970's - ARPANET expanded by the NSF through funding the Computer Science Network (CSNET)
- 1982 - TCP/IP (credited to Cerf) introduced as the de-facto standard networking protocol on the ARPANET
- 80's - through TCP/IP networking, end-user networks emerge (FidoNet/UUCP USENET)
- late 80's - consumer demand starts to increase for networked computers as PCs become more popular for the average consumer, public ARPANET (funded by the National Science Foundation) gets privated to regional commercial ISPs
